The beautiful, soft sandy beaches of St. Augustine is just a quick 90 minute drive away from Kings Bay, GA. St. Augustine is a great day trip destination, from its brick-lined streets and European flavor, to century-old buildings and horse-drawn carriages. Read on to learn more!
Known as the oldest city in America (and with the country’s narrowest street), St. Augustine has a charming historic district with beautiful traditional Spanish architecture. If you aren’t traveling to St. Augustine for the beach, you could still spend all day exploring the history and beauty this downtown brings.

Here’s my suggested day trip itinerary:
First Stop: Buc-ee’s

On your way down to St. Augustine your first stop for gas and beach snacks is Buc-ee’s. Some would say America’s gas station? There’s just something about buying a red, white, and blue shirt that says “Land of the Free, Home of the Beaver!” Buc-ees is right off of I-95 so it’s the perfect pit-stop.
Second Stop: Butler Beach

If you want to experience the beach, Butler Beach is a locals best-kept secret. The only people allowed on this beach are Florida residents or active duty military (with ID)! The beach offers wide stretches of white sand, perfect for swimming, beach combing and sunbathing. The beach is also dog (on leash) and car friendly, as long as you have four-wheel drive capabilities with your vehicle.
Third Stop: Dinner

There are so many unique and special places to eat in and around St. Augustine. My personal favorite is Crabby’s Beachside. Other notable places are Treylor Park, The Flordian, St Augustine Fish Camp, and Catch 27.
Fourth Stop: Cocktails and Dessert

A worldwide famous bar in St. Augustine is The Tipsy Duck Parlor. This is a fun “Duck Themed” bar, from the drink menu to the barstools! And don’t worry, it is kid friendly too! Their entire building is covered in ducks, bubbles, and loads of fun stuff. Don’t miss the wall of ducks (and if you look close enough you could even find some sailor duck)!
I personally have not been but I’ve also heard great things about The Drunken Horse.
