6 Great Shave Ice Shops on Oahu

For our family weekly shave ice trips were our way of counting down making it through another week of deployment! It is also the best way to beat the heat after a long day at the beach or adventurous hike. Nothing can beat the sweet refreshing taste of pillowy ice countered by the tang of special flavors such as lilikoi or mango.

Here is a list of some of our favorite shave ice shops:

Kula Shave Ice (North Shore)

66-320 Kamehameha, Hwy, Haleiwa, HI

Created with the dream of created healthier and more sustainable treat for the community, this shop offers flavors that are all organically grown/locally sourced fruit and organic cane sugar. One bite and you can taste the difference!


Waiola Shave Ice (Town)

3113 Mokihana St, Honolulu, HI

Crafting sweet treats town side since 1940, Waiola Shave Ice is a local favorite. With flavors such as POG, Green Tea, and Blue Hawaii you can create your own signature creation.


Island Vintage (Waikiki)

2201 Kalakaua Ave, Honolulu, HI

Island Vintage coffee is delish and their shave ice is even better. With syrups made with fresh fruit and shave ice that is light as snow. The heavenly lilikoi is my personal favorite!


Shimazu Store (Town)

3111 Castle Street, Honolulu, HI & 330 North School St, Kalihi, HI

This small business offers large bold flavor combinations such Red Velvet Cake, Lemon Drop and Banana Fosters with HUGE portions! They also offer unique toppings such as creamy haupia (coconut), li hing powder and dulce de leche. 


Uncle Clay’s House of Pure Aloha

820 W Hind Drive #116, Honolulu, HI

Tucked away in a strip mall in Aina Haina it is a great stop after hiking Makaapu’u Light House or Koko Head stairs. Their fresh fruit shave ice delights are light, refreshing and still full of flavor. Some favorites are Strawberry Dream, Tropical Delight (my personal favorite) and the Classic Rainbow.


Matsumoto’s Shave Ice (North Shore)

66-087 Kamehameha Hwy, Haleiwa, HI

This iconic shop in the North Shore has been in business since 1951 and a favorite with tourist and locals. The lines can be long but go by fast. Make sure to try some ice cream or condensed milk to your cup to make it even sweeter.
