Haunted Norfolk Tours (various dates)
Get in the spooky season mood early with Haunted Norfolk Tours! The company is hosting five tours this month – Sept. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30th. Walk through some of Downtown’s otherworldly-histories; from ghost stories and real life tragedies, to experiments from another dimension. Crawl the depths of Norfolk and explore all the spooky charm it has to offer. The 90 minute tours start at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $25 per person (must be purchased in advance). The themes of this tour are of an adult nature. It is at a parent’s discretion as to whether their child is mature enough for this content.
Make-A-Scarecrow (Sept. 16-17)
The 27th Annual Make-A-Scarecrow event is on Sept.16-17! Come by the McDonald Garden Center (Independence location) in Virginia Beach from 9am-4pm to create your very own, custom, life-size scarecrow. Your purchase ($30) includes everything you need to make one scarecrow (stake, wheat straw, collection of clothes, and accessories), but feel free to bring your own accessories to personalize your scarecrow.McDonald Garden Center, partnered with The King’s Daughters, the founding organization of Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD), has raised more than $300,000 during this charitable event! Register online or in stores. Walk-ins are welcome, while supplies last.
NAS Oceana Air Show (Sept. 16-17)
Don’t miss the 2023 NAS Oceana Air Show on Sept. 16-17! Featuring the Navy’s premiere flight demonstration team, the Blue Angels and the F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team, the NAS Oceana Air Show is a chance to give back to our military families and our community. Come onboard the Navy’s East Coast Master Jet Base, experience the wonder of flight firsthand, and meet the exceptional men and women of naval aviation. This year’s air show will pay tribute to 40 years of women in naval aviation.
Oktoberfest at Big Ugly Brewing (Sept. 22)
Head over to Chesapeake for some Oktoberfest celebrations at Big Ugly Brewing! Join in the fun on Friday, Sept. 22 with schlitzengiggle – Marzen on tap, live music, German food, axe throwing, stein hoisting competition and a beer marionette. Don’t miss other Oktoberfest events at Tradition Brewing Company (Sept. 9) and New Realm Brewing (Sept. 16)!
49th Annual Neptune Festival Boardwalk Weekend (Sept. 29-Oct. 1)
Celebrate the beach life at the Neptune Festival Boardwalk Weekend (Sept. 29-Oct. 1) at Virginia Beach! Enjoy free, daily concerts at festival stages with local, regional, and national acts. Over 250 artists will set up shop on the boardwalk for Neptune’s Art & Craft Show, along with tasty food options! From crab cakes to Italian ice, stained glass to pottery, there is sure to be something to delight young and old festival goers alike. Other events include a sandsculpting championship, 8K race, touch-a-truck, volleyball tournament, grand parade and more!
