8 Great Spring Events Near Groton: St. Patrick’s Day Car Parade, Easter Egg Drive-Thrus & More

Spring is just around the corner and it can’t come soon enough. You may be wondering how to get out and about for St. Patrick’s Day and Easter, and luckily we found some great events near Groton. And while COVID is transforming traditional Easter egg hunts into Easter egg drive thrus, we’ll take it.

Here’s eight great events to consider:

March 8: Free! St. Patrick’s Day Craft Pick-Up

Beacon Point Homesin Groton is hosting a fun St. Patrick’s Day craft pick-up for the whole family to enjoy! All necessary items for the craft will be provided along with instructions. Register by Monday March 8th on our event page. For questions about this event, contact (860) 446-5913.


March 13: St. Patrick’s Day Pop-Up Farmer’s Market

 The Groton Pop-Up Farmers Market has one remaining event for the season, a St. Patrick’s Pop-Up on Saturday, March 13, from 10am-1pm, at Washington Park (295 Meridian St, Groton, CT)! Shop amongst more than a dozen local vendors, from fresh roasted coffee beans to baked goods, eggs, chicken, hand-crafted cannolis and artisan soaps. Face masks are required to enter and social distancing will be enforced with one-way lane markers.


March 14: St. Patrick’s Day Car Parade New London

The New London St. Patrick’s Day Parade returns this month strictly as a car parade this Sunday, March 14. The Car Parade kicks off at Shaw Cove at 12pm, and will proceed north on Bank Street. The route this year is approximately 10 miles, which provides greater viewing for the public to stand close to their homes to see the parade. Event organizers encourage people to decorate their homes or businesses along the route. For more information and the full parade route, click here.


March 14: Easter Egg Drive-Thru at Ray of Light Farm

Located about 30 minutes outside of Groton, Ray of Light Farm in East Haddam will host a fun Easter Egg Drive-Thru on Sunday, March 14th! Stop for candy filled eggs along our enchanted bunny trail. See live animals, farm friendly characters and Easter Bunnies galore as you drive through in the safety and comfort of your own car. Candy and treats are for the children in the cars only, tickets cost $5 per person. You can purchase your tickets online at their website.


March 21: Lavender Watering Can Paint & Sip

Painted by The Shore and Stonington Vineyards have paired up for their first ever watering can workshop! Gather your loved ones for an early Spring celebration (with some yummy local sips). Your $47 ticket includes materials/instruction and a glass of wine.  Additional drinks are available for purchase on site. Please note, it is now mandated that anyone wanting to have wine at the winery (tastings, a glass or bottle) for on-site consumption must purchase food from the winery.


April 3: Drive Thru Easter Eggstravaganza

The City of Groton Parks & Rec Department is hosting a “Drive Thru Easter Eggstravaganza” on Saturday, April 3rd! The Easter Bunny and McGruff will be greeting cars and handing out a bag of Easter Eggs to every child. The event is free and will be held from 10am-11:30am at the City of Groton Municipal Building, located at 295 Meridian St.


April 5-11: Submarine Birthday Virtual 5k and One Mile Submarine Sprint

Celebrate the 120th birthday of the United States Submarine Force with the first ever Submarine Birthday 5k, benefiting the Dolphin Scholarship Foundation and presented by the San Diego Submarine Spouse Community. Run, jog, or walk wherever you are anytime between 5-11 April, 2021 and submit your result on the RunSignUp website! 


April 14-15: Pirate Days at Mystic Seaport Museum

Join Mystic Seaport Museum for Pirate Days on April 14-15, a treasure trove of outdoor fun for the whole family!
