Today is National Donut Day! Whether it’s a real holiday or not, bookmark this weekend for some hole foods. Here’s three great shops near Groton:
Deviant Donuts
Deviant Donuts is a popular donut joint located at Olde Mistick Village. The shop launches new, creative menus every week, from “Baker’s Choice” and “Disney Princess” to “Spring Fling” and “Cookie.” And if you’re vegan or gluten free, keep an eye out! They don’t forget about you, either.
Young Bun Doughnuts
Pastry Chef Adam Young, the brains behind nearby Sift Bake Shop, opened Young Bun Doughnuts last summer. Located in the heart of downtown Mystic, the team makes their donuts from scratch every day, and stay open until they sell out. The shop includes a full coffee counter with house made hot chocolate, fresh squeezed lemonade and other assorted drinks.
Nana’s Bakery & Pizza
Nana’s Bakery & Pizza quietly opened last year during the pandemic, and its been the sweetest surprise to grace Mystic/Stonington. The eatery sells delicious pizza, but don’t skimp on the donuts. Their special, made-to-order hot sourdough doughnuts are worth their weight in gold.
