Sub Spouse Small Business: RKM Designs

Story submitted by Kristin

In our latest installment of “Sub Spouse Small Business,” we want to introduce you to Rachel! Currently residing in Nebraska, Rachel is a submarine spouse and owner of RKM Designs, an online Etsy shop where she specializes in children’s clothing.

Name: Rachel

Current Duty Station: Nebraska

Q: How did you get started?

My sewing journey started in middle school when my mom taught me to quilt. All through high school I would thrift and modify the clothes I bought. My sewing hobby transferred into RKM Designs when my oldest was born in 2016.

Q: What was your inspiration for creating this business?

I love putting my kids in almost 100% cotton clothing and I’m super picky about the prints I put on their bodies. I thought other moms might feel the same way.

Q: What items do you make now?

My favorite things to make are hoodie/ jogger sets. I make just about anything you can think of. I take custom orders for quilts, and clothes too. I make shirts, shorts, pants, sweat suits, dresses, rompers, overalls, beanies, newborn gowns, headbands, bows. I work with both knit (stretchy) fabric as well as woven (non stretch). Finally, I also make bags.

Q: Where can we support and learn more about your business?
