Five Great Places to Grab a Lobster Roll Near Groton

Growing up in the coastal south, I’m well acquainted with great seafood.  But prior to moving to Groton, I never had a “labstah” roll.  The first time I tried one, it instantly became my go to summer order when dining out.  I made it my mission to find the best lobster roll in the area.  What I found was, it’s impossible to determine whose lobster roll is the best because there are so many unique and delicious rolls to try.

So here’s what I settled on:

Most Unique Lobster Roll

Treehouse at Oyster Club offers two lobster rolls on their menu, the chilled being the most unique.  Mixed with Yuzu Aioli and finished with charred kimchi powder, this roll is unlike any other you’ll try.  Enjoy open air dining in Mystic at the Treehouse.  If you luck out, you’ll snag a table for two with a view to enjoy the sunset over the river.

Best Date Night Lobster Roll

Grab your drink of choice and head on down to Ford’s.  Snag a seat at the counter and enjoy the fresh, salty air and sound views for days.  I recommend the lobster bomb.  Enjoy the Noank sunset with your submariner.

Best Indoor Lobster Roll

If the weather is bad and you really want a roll, check out Red 36 or The Mariner.  If you are looking for a cocktail to accompany your roll, The Mariner’s cocktail list and mixologists are second to none.  Red 36 has an impressive raw bar- an excellent choice for your appetizer.

Best Family-Friendly Lobster Roll

I love Abbott’s Lobster in the Rough when we are doing a family dinner out.  The kids can run around while my submariner and I enjoy our dinner.  Bonus- there’s a dessert shack on site.  The view is amazing and there’s plenty of lawn space for the littles to get out their wiggles.  Choose between a hot or lobster salad roll and finish with a homemade ice cream cookie sandwich.
