Pumpkin Picking & Oyster Roasting: 6 Fun Fall Activities in Hampton Roads

We’re talking pumpkin picking, oyster roasting, wine tasting and more. If you’re stationed near Norfolk, here are some must-do fall activities in Hampton Roads:

Apple and Pumpkin Picking at Cullipher Farms

What is more fall than heading to the orchard to pick apples and pumpkins? Located in Virginia Beach off of Princess Anne Road is Cullipher Farms. They offer a farm market or the famed U-Pick fields. Apple picking runs mid-August-late October and Pumpkins will be ready late September. It’s fun for the whole family. There are quite a few farms in the Hampton Roads area for seasonal fall pickings!


Harvest Fair at Hunt Club Farms

Boasting Virginia Beach’s largest pumpkin patch, Hunt Club Farm’s Annual Harvest Fair is a must visit. Running September 25 through October 31, Hunt Club is home to pumpkin picking, a petting zoo for the kids, and even a giant hay pile for the kids to play in. They have even added a Tree Walk Adventure where you get the best views of the farm. They have vendors on site where you can sip hot cider or nibble on a cider donut while you pick the perfect pumpkin.

Oktoberfest Celebrations at Local Breweries

While we can’t hop on a plane and jet off to Germany, we can enjoy a festbier and pretzel at several local breweries. Oktoberfest is Saturday, September 25, and as of right now we know of three breweries hosting events – Maker’s Craft Brewing, COVA Brewing’s 2nd Annual Oktoberfest and Benchtop Brewing Co.


Fall Farmer’s Markets

Stock up on local produce and goods at three of Norfolk’s best Farmer’s Markets. Afterall, soup season is just around the corner!The Talbot Park Farmers Market runs through October, Wednesdays from 3pm-6pm. The East Beach Farmers Market operates through October, Saturdays from 9am-12pm. And finally the Ghent Farmers Market operates one last time on Friday, September 17 from 4pm-7pm.


Greenbrier Farm Oyster & South Festival

Each Saturday before Thanksgiving, Greenbrier Farm in Chesapeake hosts their annual Oyster Roast. This truly is an event for the whole family with live music, delicious food, and a variety of beverages. Typically, the event benefits a charity of choice so stay tuned for dates and ticket information. Greenbrier Farm is also home to a pick your own style market and nursery where you can stock up on your fall favorites.


Fall Town Point Virginia Wine Festival

Did you know Virginia has been named a top wine destination by Wine Enthusiast Magazine? Mark your calendar for the 33rd Annual Town Point Virginia Fall Wine Festival, taking place October 16-17 from 11am-6pm at Town Point Park in Downtown Norfolk! Grab a ticket and sample wines from all over the state. Every May and October, Virginia wineries gather together to create an event that everyone can enjoy. From the wine connoisseur to the newbies, everyone can find something to their tastes at this weekend festival!
