6 Fun Things To Do With Kids Near Charleston

It’s no secret that Charleston offers a variety of activities for the entire family. Consistently ranked as one of the best cities in the US to raise a child in, Charleston boasts numerous activities for every interest. From museums to sports, there is surely something for every child.

Bee City

About an hour drive rom Charleston, Cottageville is home to Bee City Zoo. Established nearly 30 years ago, this family operated zoo includes activities such as hand feeding animals, a beekeeping sanctuary, and a Nature Center that houses reptiles from the state of South Carolina.  Bee City is great for a fun-filled family day long adventure or even the place for your child’s next birthday party. South Carolina Aquarium

Nestled in downtown Charleston is the South Carolina Aquarium. Whether you want to learn about local species or creatures that roam the depths, the aquarium has it all. Fun Fact: The South Carolina Aquarium has a sea turtle rehabilitation center where they help protect and rehabilitate injured sea turtles and hope to help them return to the wild.


Hickory Bluff Berry Farm

Located a short drive from Charleston, Hickory Bluff Berry Farm is a one-stop shop for seasonal fruit picking! They offer u-pick berries straight from their fields, homemade jams, and fresh vegetable and garden products. They have booths at both the Charleston Farmers Market and the Summerville Farmers Market. Bonus: The farm is run and owned by a Navy Veteran.


The Charleston Museum

Recently opened inside The Charleston Museum is the new Kidstory interactive exhibit. This is a fun and interactive way for your child to learn all about Lowcountry history and Charleston history. Let your children hoist the Jolly Roger as they learn Charleston’s history with pirates or perhaps let them play with toys from the Colonial Era in the Heyward-Washington House; there is truly something for everyone!


Splash Zone Waterpark

With the weather heating up, what a better place to enjoy the outdoors and have some fun than the Splash Zone Waterpark, inside James Island County Park. One of three Charleston County waterparks, Splash Zone has a 200 ft tube slide, concessions along with chair and lounge rentals, and 500 ft lazy river for those who prefer to take it easy. This is a great place for birthday parties or even just a casual day excursion.

A classic American family outing: a baseball game. But not just any baseball game, bring the whole family to The Joe for a game played by the Charleston Riverdogs, Charleston’s Minor League baseball team and Tampa Bay affiliate. Check the calendar or events for themed nights, the highly anticipated Dog Day(s), and maybe you’ll even spot Bill Murray, comedian, actor, and Co-Owner of the team. (Referred to as the Director of Fun).
