Halloween is almost upon us! Perhaps you have no ideas (and not a lot of time) to throw something together. Do you have a trunk or treat event coming up on base? Or perhaps some friends from your spouse’s command are getting together for a costume party? If so, this blog is for you!
With submarines as our inspiration, here are a few costume ideas that you can throw together in no time.
An Exhausted Submariner
…Because, let’s be honest, they don’t get a whole lot of quality sleep on the job. Throw on a cover, borrow an old poopy suite, and, last but not least, dab on some dark circles under your eyes. Ohhhhh, don’t forget to fill your pockets with at least 20 pens and leave one behind wherever you go. Do try to remove the pens (especially the grease pens) before tossing your clothes into the laundry later on.
Does your spouse have some worn-out old coveralls that you can take off their hands? The more holes the better! Remove all of the rank/ribbons/etc and give ‘em a good tearing around the arms and legs. Don’t forget the dark, gruesome eye makeup.
A Red DANGER Tag
It’s up to you how you want to fashion this one! You could make a giant tag with foam-board to fasten around your body or you could simply create a smaller tag out of red construction paper and hang it around your neck, arm, ankle…wherever.
A Yellow Submarine
I’m sure this is a tired reference for many of us, BUT Halloween sometimes calls for leaning into clichés. Seriously, how many of your folks have played that Beatles song for you one too many times? Depending on how much time you have on your hands you can cut out and paint a cardboard costume or check out this inflatable yellow submarine costume sold on Amazon!
Good luck with whatever Halloween costume you come up with this year and most importantly be safe, have fun, and be kind to one another while Trick-or-Treating this year!
