Is one of your New Years Resolutions to get more steps in? Never fear, the greater Hampton Roads area has a variety of paved, stroller and bike friendly trails to explore.
Here’s 10 to add to your list:
Virginia Beach
- Mount Trashmore – beautiful park with two playgrounds, 2 mile, paved perimeter trail around the lake
- City View Park – paved loop trail, two playgrounds on either end
- Virginia Beach Boardwalk/Grommet Island Park – 3 mile paved trail along the boardwalk, bonus: two playgrounds, access to bathrooms and other attractions
- First Landing State Park – various trails, 3 mile Osmanthus Trail can be all-terrain/jogging stroller friendly
Chesapeake
- Oak Grove Lake Park – multi-use, 1.5 mile trail surrounding the 65-acre lake, hard gravel but stroller-friendly
- Deep Creek Park – various paved trails throughout the park, including a loop inside a fenced playground
- Great Dismal Swamp Canal Trail – 8.3-mile paved, multiuse trail that connects to Deep Creek Park
Other
- Elizabeth River Trail (Norfolk) – 10.5 mile urban trail, connecting segments of Norfolk’s working waterfront
- Matteson Trail (Hampton) – 3-mile asphalt, shaded trail that encircles the Hampton’s Golf Course
- Suffolk Seaboard Coastline Trail (Suffolk) – 5.6 mile rail-trail
